Synopsis - SPOILER ALERT!!
This dark, feature-length thriller film follows Livy, middle-class mother of two, who has been trying to maintain her family life since her younger sister, Kara was killed. All normality is turned upside down when her long-term friend Julia suddenly dies. Julia had been a strong, single working woman, and had been Livy’s rock over the years. Devastated and suspicious at the circumstances of Julia’s death, Livy begins to investigate. However, the more she discovers, the more danger she puts herself, and everyone she loves, in.
Set in present-day Exeter, Livy’s day-to-day life as a mother and housewife is altered as events that she could never have anticipated, unfold. Upon discovering that Julia had been investigating Kara’s murder, there is now the very dangerous possibility that Kara’s killer silenced Julia.
During her research, Livy finds Honey Hearts, an agency that tricks unfaithful men. This brings up feelings of betrayal from when Livy’s husband Will had an affair; and this begins to put more of a strain on the pair’s unhappy marriage – with Livy unable to trust her husband.
As Livy continues her investigations, she meets Julia’s partner Damian. He reveals a side to Julia that Livy was never aware of, which instantly makes her suspicious. However, sensing that Damian’s strong feelings for Julia are real, and that he is truly upset by her death, she agrees that they shall work together to uncover the full picture. Although, the more that Livy finds out about Damian and his past, the shadier he seems.
As they get closer to the truth, the killer sends a clear message telling them to stop their investigation. Despite this, they continue – desperate for answers, even though they could be imminent danger. An even darker turn occurs when the killer then attempts to kill them in a house fire, to terminate them and their investigation.
Damian and Livy are brought closer together after this encounter, even though Damian is still a suspect, in Livy’s mind. But the more and more they investigate; more people become suspects, including Julia’s family. Then Poppy, the teenage daughter of a Honey Hearts agent, reveals the missing part of the puzzle to Julia, Damian and Livy discover the killer’s hideaway, which has souvenirs from all of his victims – including Kara and Julia.
The two rushes to get away but discover a child’s body in the road: Livy’s young son, Zack. As Livy runs to Zack, the killer silently slits Damian’s throat while her back is turned. He then corners Livy, drugs her and kidnaps her and her son. When she is dragged out onto an open cliff-face, Livy realizes with a sick start, that her whole family is merciless to the hands of the killer.
The killer reveals his identity, and is someone who Livy never could have imagined – someone who she had trusted for the past twenty years. He forces Livy to make an impossible choice over who lives and dies, and Livy is consumed with trying to think of a way to save her beloved family. After a failed attempt, Will and her silently band together, and manage to overthrow their assailant and stab him – the force of which knocks him off of the cliff face.
Later, the family are cared for and taken home, having been brought closer together by the day’s events, than they had been in years. Livy now has a better relationship with her estranged teenage daughter Hannah, and has a newfound respect and love for her husband. After their terrifying ordeal, Livy's family is drawn closer together and begins to work out their differences, all together again in their family home.
