Character Profiles:

Livy: A middle-aged, married housewife and mother of two. Her quiet life comes crashing down when she discovers that her best friend Julia has been killed. The older sister to Kara, who was murdered whilst still at university. Headstrong and stubborn, and determined to find out the truth.

Julia: Livy's best friend; the two became close after Kara's death. Julia had been Kara's best friend at university, and had been investigating into Kara's death until she was silenced by the killer. Julia had expensive, designer tastes and was an independent woman, whose job it was to research and write articles for a magazine.

Kara: Younger sister to Livy, best friends with Julia. Kara was tragically murdered while at university when she was walking home from a party in the early hours of the morning. She had been a shy girl, and only approached those who she trusted and felt safe with.

Robbie: Julia's brother. The two had their differences when growing up, and this didn't change into adulthood. During their time at university, Robbie had expressed an interest in Livy that had continued up until this day, with Julia referring to him as 'dickweasel' in disgust. He is very close to his and Julia's mother.

Damian: Julia's partner, nicknamed 'Dirty Blonde'. Although Livy had thoughts that their relationship had only been casual, Damian reveals that him and Julia had been planning their future together, before she died. Distraught by her death, Damian teams up with Livy in order to find answers about what happened. But Damian has a shady past himself, and Livy is unsure of whether she can totally trust him and his motives.

Paul: A friend of Livy's from university. The two have kept in good contact over the years, especially as Paul works with Livy's husband Will. When Livy and Will's marriage begins to break up, Paul offers Livy comfort and advice.

Will: Livy's husband, father to Hannah and Zack. In recent years, Will had an affair with a college at work, which has led to a breakdown of trust within his marriage to Livy. He has been trying to make it up to her, but when Julia is found dead he becomes increasingly frustrated when Livy continuously investigates something which he believes to be a simple overdose. This, added to the fact that Livy finds Julia's ring in his toolbox, makes Livy increasingly suspicious about whether Will has had a part in Julia's death.

Shannon: Agent at the Honey Hearts honey-trap agency, which aims to catch out unfaithful partners. During her investigations, Livy finds Shannon's business card with Julia's belongings, through which she then discovers the agency. Once Shannon is aware of what happened to Julia, she becomes afraid and retreats to Julia's holiday-let cottage. However, the killer finds her when Livy and Damian catch up to her and, despite her urgency, she does not get away quick enough. Previous to the life-threatening events, Shannon had been smart and presentable and had lived in a designer apartment. When Livy and Damian find her, she is in possession of Kara's locket, which begins to link Julia and Kara's deaths together.

Poppy: The daughter to an agent at Honey Hearts. Poppy is a drug addict and approaches Livy asking for money, in return for information. When Livy presses her for more information, she makes a run for it, but Livy catches up to her and is able to discover one of the last clues to the puzzle. Poppy is a vulnerable girl in her late teens, whose life is being ruined by her drug use.

Hannah: Livy and Will's teenage daughter. Hannah is a moody teenager who tries to act older than she is. She dislikes her mother until the end of the film, preferring to be a 'daddy's girl' and spend any meaningful time with her father. She is distraught when herself, Livy and Zack go to Julia's apartment and find her dead, yet she doesn't discuss her feelings openly with her mother. However, the events at the end of the film bring her closer towards her mother, and the whole family becomes reunited once more.

Zack: Livy and Will's young son. Zack is in the first few years at primary school, and is a positive vibe within the family household. Zack tends to be happy and trusting, and is accepting of whatever he is told - he has that childhood naivety. He is the baby of the family and Livy cherishes him.

The killer: An cold, calculating individual, who is very through when it comes to planning his kills and covering his tracks. He has been able to fit into normal society without anyone suspecting him of his dark acts. He began when he was young, out of a morbid curiosity of how his pet cat would react if he slowly chopped bits of its tail off. Throughout puberty, his fascination moved to girls/women, who he then focused his desires on. When he was younger he forced his baby-sitter to expose herself to him - exercising his control. This later moved on to murder, of which he has committed multiple over the years - including Kara and Julia. Prioritizing his self-preservation above all else, he has no problem with threatening or killing those that threaten to expose him. When Livy gets close to finding the truth, he exercises his control by forcing her to make an impossible decision.
